Sportswomen of Colorado has promoted, honored, and empowered Colorado girls and women in sport. More than 2,200 women have been spotlighted for sports achievement awards since beginning in 1974. I was asked to create a design for the 51st Annual Awards Celebration & Fundraiser, focusing around the theme of the 2024 Summer Olympics. I was asked to create an event design that showcases the successes of female athletes as a whole over the past 50 years, mixed with the Olympics.
For this, I chose to source images of female athletes in action, but without the faces clearly visible. I wanted them to represent “every woman”, rather than insinuating a specific person. Then I distressed the images to look like photos from old black and white newspapers and juxtaposed with rings of various sizes in Olympic colors.
